A Raisin in the Sun Character Analysis

The play “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry has lots of fascinating characters. In my viewpoint, the most interesting character is Ruth since of her many feelings and captivating personality. She goes through extreme emotions in the play such as happiness, sadness, anger, stress, and confusion. Ruth is very independent, company, kind, amusing, and loving. Ruth has an appealing character. She is very caring towards her household. She will do all in her power to enhance the lifestyle of her family.

When it appears that the deal for your home in Clybourne Park will fall through, she guarantees to devote all of her time to make the investment work. “Lena-I’ll work? I’ll work 20 hours a day in all the kitchen areas in Chicago? I’ll strap my baby on my back if I have to and scrub all the floors and clean all the sheets in America if I have to-but we need to MOVE!” she pleads to her mother-in-law (Hansberry140). Her strategy is unrealistic and optimistic, however the well being of her family is more vital to her than anything. Ruth is also amusing and sarcastic sometimes.

She fractures jokes to lighten the state of mind of her family when they’re stressed. “Well that’s the way the cracker falls apart. Joke. (121 )” When Beneatha and Mama are stressing over the neighborhood they are moving into, Ruth makes a witty joke to improve the mood. Ruth monitors the day-to-day routine and well being of her family. She ensures that everybody does what they are expected to and stays on track. For example, when Ruth says, “Walter Lee-it’s time for you to GET UP! (25 ),” she is making sure that her hubby gets to work for the good of the household.

Ruth stresses the value of preserving an excellent picture of her family. When George arrives to take Beneatha out, Walter and Beneatha are not being well mannered, so Ruth takes control and tries to make-up for their behavior. “Beneatha, you got company-what’s the matter with you? Walter Lee Younger, get down off that table and stop imitating a fool? (80 )” Ruth is also independent and kind. Ruth’s dream is to improve her household’s way of life and move into a house where she can raise Travis and the new infant. To understand her dreams she need to not put everybody else’s wants and requires in front of hers all of the time.

She needs to reveal her sensations more frequently so that her family will listen and help her to reach her goals. The play supports this view by demonstrating how Ruth typically neglects her sensations and pays fantastic attention to her family’s sensations, desires, and needs. Ruth compares to two people I understand personally. My mommy and my grandmother remind me of her quite. My mom is extremely comparable to Ruth due to the fact that they are both independent, amusing, loving, and kind. My mama keeps my household on track everyday just as Ruth does. Both my mom and Ruth fracture jokes frequently to lighten the state of mind.

My mom and Ruth care about the well being of their families more than anything. My Grandma is also really comparable to Ruth in many ways. My grandmother is loving, kind, and firm. My grandmother and Ruth both enjoy their households more than anything on the planet. My grandma always puts the household’s wants and requires in front of her own, as does Ruth. My grandmother is kind to everybody and she is very firm in where she stands. She does what she feels is right in every scenario, much like Ruth. Lots of crucial things can be learned from Ruth. She teaches the value of household and being kind to everybody.

She reveals that with a favorable attitude in life, things will end up for the better. Ruth likewise teaches how it is essential to wait one’s beliefs and not let difficult times seize control of the situation. By following Ruth’s example, others can turn an unfavorable situation into a favorable one. Ruth teaches many morals and important lessons that others can benefit from. Ruth goes through numerous difficult situations and many diverse feelings, but she always manages to make it though. She has a really favorable attitude and an ensnaring character. Ruth is a very fascinating character.
