Catcher In The Rye– Mr. Spencer
The setting of this story happens in Agerstown, Pennsylvania. The house of Pency boarding school. Pency is a college prep schools that promotes only the best aspects of it and never ever points out how much the students will dislike going there. On the pamphlet there is a fake, fictional student that does not exist playing polo. In reality, there are a couple hundred spoiled little rich students whose moms and dads do not desire the problem of raising them. In the beginning of the story Holden is enjoying the Friday night football game from a hill.
He had actually just gotten back from a fencing match that needed to be interrupted in New York due to the fact that the captain of the fencing team, which occurred to be Holden, left all of the equipment on the train. Needless to say it was a long trip home for Holden. After all of this has occurred Holden returns just to learn that he has been released from Pency and placed on scholastic probation. Holden was not silly by any ways however if he did not desire to learn what was being taught he declined to attempt. The teachers on the other hand did not agree with Holden’s reasoning.
Therefore, he was stopping working all but one of his classes. Holden had a good friend that was an instructor at Pency. He was probably the only individual that midway comprehended him. The only issue was that Mr. Spencer was old and senile and did not have much pull with in the school board, which indicated he did not serve as much assistance in Holden’s existing situation. Mr. Spencer was always attempting to prepare Holden for life. Holden hardly ever listened however felt obliged to say good-bye to him because he had tried to understand him, which is more than most people had actually ever done for him.
Holden went to visit Mr. Spencer prior to he left. Holden was a prime example of a ruined little abundant kid who had everything but acted as though he had absolutely nothing. He had no genuine friends to rely on, only other spoiled abundant kids who were never ever deprived of anything. This time was different though. This was not the first time that Holden was gotten rid of from a school. Holden always knew there was always another boarding school that would enjoy to accept him and his cash.
This time he was not going to just kick back and wait on the next school to choose him up, he was going to enjoy himself while he could. He was set up to leave on Wednesday. It was only Friday. The possibilities were endless on what could occur in those five days. While being in his dormitory considering his next relocation in life his next-door neighbor Akley came barging in through the curtain that separated the two rooms. Akley was quite a character. He was the type of person that only came over when you least desired him too.
He was not the most attractive person you had ever seen either. When there was nobody else around he was not such a bad person however like Holden he did not like too many individuals there fore, he constantly had something to state about someone. Holden was sixteen and Akley was eighteen. He was also the type of guy who did not let you forget it if he was older than you were. While Akley was there Holden’s roommate Stradlater came intruding the front door. He right away asked a favor of Holden. He wished to barrow his houndstooth jacket for a big date.
Holden made him sweat for a while and then agreed. By this time Akley had left the room due to the fact that not surprisingly he was not too fond of Stradlater. Stradlater had gone to the bathroom to get tidied up and Holden followed to get more information about this huge date he was off on. When Holden learned that it was Jane Gallagher that he was secured he was annoyed. He did not desire Stradlater to know he was outraged so he continued the discussion. He pointed out that he once understood her.
Stradlater, uninterested just nodded and stated, “oh really? at this point Holden was about to explode with anger and jealousy. He could not stand the thought of a “jerk like Stradlater” taking a considerate girl like Jane out. When Stradlater discussed that the basketball coach used to provide him his automobile for the night Holden lost it and threw a punch at Stradlater. He was rapidly battled to the ground however he was satisfied understanding that he laid one on him. This is an “ok” book, only because I hate to read, however I would advise in to most people since there is a lot of cussing and the sort.
