Curley’s Wife “Of Mice and Men”

In Of Mice and Male, character meaning lets the reader see what life resembled in the 1930’s. Much of the characters represent a specific individual that could have been residing in the 1930’s. This book has to do with the adventures of two males, George Milton and the psychologically handicapped Lennie Small.

They were migrant workers who needed to look for work throughout the Great Anxiety. You see the friendship between the 2 males, and how they care for each other and try to protect each other. Author John Steinbeck does a great job of revealing character symbolism in the story.

He shows how back then, the American dream was extremely hard to accomplish due to the fact that of The Great Depression, and unequal rights towards ladies and the mentally various. Curley’s partner signifies how ladies were dealt with in the 1930’s. In the 1930’s women were dealt with as objects.

They had no rights or flexibility. It was impossible for ladies to achieve the American dream, because female were property of a man, providing no independence to be something aside from a homemaker.

My first example on how Curley’s other half was dealt with as a things is just in her name, she doesn’t have one. In the story Curley’s spouse is dealt with as Curley’s other half. You never discover her name. This offered her and all females a personality of insignificance, that they were just placed on the earth to be mistreated housewives and not have anywhere close to the exact same chances as males. Because ladies didn’t have many chances besides prostitution, Curley’s partner didn’t have much of an interesting life. When her spouse Curley was not around she would get lonely.

In this quote, Curley’s better half expresses her solitude, “‘I get lonesome,’ she stated ‘you can speak with individuals, however I can’t talk with nobody however Curley, else he gets mad. How ‘d you like not to talk with no one? ‘” (Steinbeck 87) Curley’s spouse states this quote when all the males went to town, including her spouse.

It shows that she spends all her time alone, in her home as the men work in the fields. She is likewise not enabled to speak to anyone but her husband who spends all of this time in the fields, so she seems like she is living alone all her life.

Many individuals dreamed for the American dream, especially Curley’s other half. Curley’s spouse imagined being an extremely paid actress. In this quote Curley; s spouse is revealing her dream of being a starlet,”‘Coulda remained in the films, an’ had great clothes … An’ I coulda beinged in them huge hotels, an’ had pitchers took of me.

When they had them previews I coulda went to them, an’ spoke in the radio, an’ it would n’ta cost me a cent since I remained in the pitcher. … Since this men states I was a natural. ‘” (Steinbeck 88) Here she is imagining a better life than the one she has now.

But because of the time duration it was extremely difficult for females to accomplish their dreams not to mention be permitted to have them. In Of Mice and Men, character meaning lets the reader see what life resembled in the 1930’s. Curley; s wife signified the level of equality that ladies had in the time duration that happened in the story.

Females were home and things. Steinbeck does an excellent job of significance of females through Curley’s other half. He shows how back then, the American dream was exceptionally tough to accomplish since of The Great Anxiety, and unequal rights towards women and the psychologically different.
