Miss Brill by Catherine Mansfield Summary
Miss grill Miss Brill is a story about Miss drill, a middle-aged English teacher living by the Public Gardens in a French town. As the story begins, she decides to use a fur during her normal walking in the park, on a Sunday afternoon. The fur is really unique ro her and she thinks about it as a living animal. She hasn’t worn it for a very long time and now feels happy, feeling her “dear little thing” on her body, When she arrives at the park. she notifications that there’re more people than last Sunday and the band plays louder and gayer as the season has begun.
She rests on the bench beside the old couple and feels dissatisfied, as they are not talking. Miss Brill delights in eavesdropping on the strangers and learning about their life. She views individuals in the park, most of Which are the exact same all the Sundays She also sees numerous people-young couples, women, ladies, kids, old ones and thinks it is like a play-all Of them have their roles and they are carrying out on Sundays. Then she begins daydreaming about how she checks out a newspaper 4 times a week to the old man Who constantly sleeps during this reading.
She thinks that he ouldn’t sleep if he recognizes she is an actress. She continues thinking of her idea ot play and visions eveybody singing together, It makes her ecstatic and she cries, Miss Brill’s exciting Sunday afierncH)n is messed up by a young couple, coming and sitting next to her, making impolite remarks Of her being a “dumb Old thing” and about her fur. She is touched hurtfully by this and returns house. On her method house, she would usually purchase a cake at the bakeshop and now she does not. She enters her little dark space, puts the fur without looking at it in package and thinks she hears something crying.
