The Crucible Forgiveness
In The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, one of the main themes is forgiving others. When you forgive others, you totally free yourself from more hurt. And God commands it. First of all, flexible others frees yourself from more hurt. When you forgive somebody you are saying to them that you stop feeling anger and resentment towards them which you are willing to put it behind you. In The Crucible, Mr Proctor cheats on his other half and she has to find out how to forgive him. At the start of Act Two she hasn’t forgiven him and her relationship towards Mr Proctor has plenty of anger and resentment “ELIZABETH: John, you are not open with me.
You saw her with a crowd, you stated. Now you- PROCTOR: I’ll plead my sincerity no more, Elizabeth. ELIZABETH-(now she would justify herself): John, I am just- PROCTOR: No more! I need to have roared you down when initially you told me your suspicion. However I wilted, and, like a Christian, I admitted. Admitted! Some dream I had actually should have misinterpreted you for God that day. But you’re not, you’re not, and let you remember it! Let you look in some cases for the goodness in me, and judge me not. ELIZABETH: I do not judge you. The magistrate sits in your heart that judges you.
I never ever believed you but a great man, John-with a smile -just rather bewildered.” This reveals that Elizabeth believes that only God who understands your heart can evaluate you which It is hard to forgive somebody who has actually hurt you, and in this book Mrs Proctor doesn’t discover it quickly, but towards completion of the book she lies to cover for her other half. I think this shows that she had forgiven him which she still enjoyed him enough to protect him and that she had actually undoubtedly freed herself from anger and animosity. Another thing that occurs when you forgive others is you are following God’s commandments.
In the book, Salem is Puritan and believes in God, they follow the Bible’s mentors and act upon them. Mrs Proctor, if she wants to follow the bible requirements to forgive her other half. The factor I know that Christianity is a huge of the town is since they go round the town the searching for individuals who aren’t at church on Sunday. Last but not least to forgive somebody is not to state they are right however to put it behind you. In The Crucible, Mrs Proctor has problem with putting her spouse’s cheating on her behind her and be the better half she needs to be.
