Many people, in their lives have lots of monstrous individuals or minutes that shape them to the person they are presently. This molding of personality, however, can have a positive or negative result on an individual. It can completely form an individual’s character for the rest of their lives. Despite The Fact That Wes Moore is registered in an extremely advanced school, that being Riverdale, the school might not assist Wes Moore in the way that Valley Forge can. The problem with Riverdale does not completely depend on the school system, it lies in the environments around the school system.
The drug invested streets and all of the violence makes it incredibly tough for Riverdale schools to be an appropriate place to get an education. Temptation surrounds the school system and it can not escape from it. Not having a great deal of disciplinary actions for inappropriate habits also causes the school system to fall apart away from the very best, “The problem was that I wasn’t even appearing half the time,” (Moore 76).
The author Wes Moore does not have the discipline for not going to his designated classes.
Although Wes Moore’s start of school is a little rocky, he gets a wakeup call when he gets to Valley Forge Military Academy. This military school does not experiment with Wes in the smallest. Initially, Wes thinks he can do whatever he wants and does not need to listen to anybody or anything, not even First Sergeant Anderson. The Sergeant wakes everybody up and requires them into the hallway. Wes Moore, however, does not think that he has to rise for anybody. The Sergeant keeps drilling Wes to rise by saying, “Get your Goat-smelling ass out of the rack!” (Moore 86). Wes, nevertheless, stands his ground and does stagnate an inch. The Sergeant then leaves to make Wes think he has won this battle between the 2 of them. Sadly, Wes Moore is mistaken. All of a sudden 8 students at the military school pick up Wes’ bed and flings him onto the hard ground.
The Valley Forge Military Academy taught Wes Moore what Riverdale never ever could, discipline. The other Wes Moore has lots of educational experiences also, simply not over the very same topics. Yes, the author and the other Wes Moore both learn how to let no one trample over them, they do it in about entirely opposite ways. The author does it by going to military school to get some discipline for himself and to defend what he believes in. The Other Wes Moore does it by violence and intimidation. His thought process is if you frighten your opponents, you don’t have to worry about them. The turning point of both the characters is different from each other. The author turns around his perspectives in military school and discovers discipline. The Other Wes Moore, however, is when he and his sibling Tony are on the run from the police officers for killing the policeman.
The author selects to turn his life around while the Other Wes Moore decides to keep heading down hill. The Other Wes Moore could have quickly been simply as successful as the author. If the Other Wes Moore had a little bit of discipline like the author performs in his life time, he would have had a much better chance at having a different life, like one that does not have his behind bars for as long as he lives. Likewise, if the cops would have captured him sooner in his drug gangs, prior to he was actually deep in them and did not have the guilt of eliminating someone, he could have had a less of a penalty and turned his life around when he got out of jail. The gang helps Wes kill Ray and if he never got associated with the top place he would not have actually been capable of killing him. This book makes me think about how events in a lifetime shape the type of person you will end up being later in life. Whatever links and shapes an individual. That is why individuals should take the favorable impacts in life to heart and exclude the unfavorable ones so the best life awaits a person in their future.
